Senior AppointmentsWho’s who and who's moving in the PSD’Aloisio to chair forum Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Tony D’Aloisio, has been appointed Chair of the Joint Forum, a major international regulatory body. The Joint Forum operates at the direction and in support of the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision, the International Organisation of Securities Commissions and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors. It works closely with the G-20’s Financial Stability Board and is set to play an important and prominent role in regulatory responses to the Global Financial Crisis. McEvoy tops at Tourism Andrew McEvoy has been appointed Managing Director of Tourism Australia. Mr McEvoy is currently Chief Executive of the South Australian Tourism Commission, and a former Tourism Australia Executive. He will commence his new role in January 2010. In previous editions... Gray to head jobs taskforce A National Resource Sector Employment Taskforce has been established to secure up to 70,000 skilled workers for about 80 major job-generating projects over the next decade. The Taskforce will be chaired by Parliamentary Secretary for Western and Northern Australia, Gary Gray and will examine projects due to come on line over the next 10 years. The Taskforce’s terms of reference and membership are yet to be announced. Millar to Chair UN body Australia’s Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Caroline Millar has been elected Chair of the Executive Committee of the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Ms Millar said she would engage with UNHCR to help it restore normality to the lives of the 32 million people who are displaced, refugees or stateless. She is the outgoing Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee and was previously Australia’s Ambassador for People Smuggling. War artist named The Australian War Memorial has named Shaun Gladwell the Official Artist for Afghanistan. Mr Gladwell has been commissioned to create a body of work that includes video and photography to become part of the national collection on completion. Travelling during October, he will be accompanied by Australian War Memorial Curator, Nick Fletcher. Beazley to US Former Defence Minister and ALP Opposition Leader, Kim Beazley has been appointed Australia’s Ambassador to the United States. Replacing Dennis Richardson who has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Beazley is expected to commence his appointment in Washington in February 2010. Nelson to EC Former Defence Minister and Liberal/National Coalition Opposition Leader, Dr Brendan Nelson as Australia’s Ambassador to the European Communities, Belgium and Luxembourg, Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and Special Representative to the World Health Organisation. Dr Nelson recently resigned from Parliament. He is expected to take up the position in February 2010 and will replace Dr Alan Thomas who has been Ambassador since January 2007. Lacy to Islands Brian Lacy has been appointed Administrator of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Mr Lacy is a Senior Deputy President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and is already well known and respected on the islands. Trappett to UAE Douglas Trappett has been appointed Australia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. He will replace Jeremy Bruer. Mr Trappett is currently the Director of the Thailand and Philippines Section at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Negus takes over at AFP Tony Negus has been sworn in as Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police. Commissioner Negus has served as Deputy Commissioner Operations since October 2007 and has been at the AFP for 27 years. He has a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration and a Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership.
