Campbell to Spain
Career Diplomat with theDepartment of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Zorica McCarthy is to replace Noel Campbell as Australia’s Ambassador to Spain.
Ms McCarthy was most recently Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan and previously served in Seoul, Washington, New York, Port Moresby and Rome.
She is expected to take up her appointment in January 2010.
Quinane to Malta Anne Quinane has been appointed High Commissioner to the Republic of Malta, succeeding Jurek Juszczyk.
Ms Quinane has enjoyed a long career with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was the High Commissioner to Kiribati from 2006 to 2009.
She has served in Warsaw, Budapest, Rome and Jakarta and is expected to take up her appointment in December 2009.
Mercer to Croatia Beverly Mercer has been appointed Ambassador to Croatia, replacing Tracy Reid.
Ms Mercer is currently Director of the United States Political and Strategic Section at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
She has previously served in Jakarta, Berlin, Phnom Penh and Bonn and is expected to take up her appointment in December 2009.
Green to ABC Jonathan Green has been named editor of the forthcoming ABC Online opinion and analysis website.
Mr Green was formerly editor of The Sunday Age.
He will lead a team of ABC writers, including Annabel Crabb who will also join the ABC in December.

Chief Executive and Managing Director of the Government’s Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, Angus Armour has been appointed President of the peak global body for export credit, the Berne Union.
Mr Armour will take over from Chairman and CEO of Nippon Export and Investment Insurance, Hidehiro Konno.
This is the first time an Australian has been appointed to the role since 1975.
Food reviewers named
An independent expert panel has been announced to undertake an examination of food labelling law and policy.
Former Minister for Health, DrNeal Blewett will chair the review.
Dr Blewett will be joined by public health law academic, Dr Chris Reynolds; economic and consumer behaviour expert, Dr Simone Pettigrew; food and nutrition policy academic, Associate Professor Heather Yeatman’ and food industry communications, marketing and corporate affairs professional, Nick Goddard.
McCallum back at NHMRC
Public health expert Professor John McCallum has been appointed Senior Scientist Public Health in the Health Evidence and Advice Branch of the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Professor McCallum is currently Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor at Victoria University.
He has been involved with the NHMRC in the past, serving two terms as a
member of the Australian Health Ethics Committee and one on the Health Advisory Committee.
RSL’s Doolan to Memorial Council
National President of the Returned and Services League of Australia, Rear Admiral Ken Doolan has been appointed to the Council of the Australian War Memorial.
Rear Admiral Doolan is to be a part-time member for three years.
The AWM Council comprises up to 10 part-time members with the Chief of Navy, Chief of Army, and Chief of Air Force as ex-officio members.
It is responsible for the strategic direction of the Australian War Memorial.
New life for sporting cat
Recently retired captain of the Geelong Cats AFL team, Tom Harley has joined the Australian Institute of Sport as an assistant coach and mentor with the Australian Football League Academy.
Mr Harley played 198 AFL matches and is well respected as an AFL player.
He is expected to attend his first AIS/AFL Academy camp on 28 November.
Borthwick to probe oil spill
Former Secretary of the Department of EnvironmentDavid Borthwick has been named Commissioner for an inquiry into the recent oil spill in the Timor Sea.
A leak at the Montara well was plugged more than two months after it was discovered.
Minister for Resources, Martin Ferguson said Mr Borthwick would have the power and the authority of a Royal Commission and could compel people to give evidence.
Mr Borthwick said he hoped people would cooperate with the inquiry,
He will hand down his findings by April 2010.
