Senior Appointments

Trinca for Museum


Dr Mathew Trinca (pictured) has been appointed as the new Director of the National Museum of Australia.

Since July 2013, Dr Trinca has been the Acting Director of the National Museum of Australia. Dr Trinca's appointment is for five years.


ASADA chief to retire


The Chief Executive of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), Aurora Andruska, plans to retire from the public sector on completion of her term on 9 May 2014.
The Minister for Sport, Peter Dutton, said Ms Andruska has had a long and distinguished career in the Public Service.
"I would like to thank Ms Andruska for her dedication and service over 37 years and wish her well for future endeavours," he said.

Human Rights Commissioner


Tim Wilson has been officially appointed as the Australian Human Rights Commissioner.

The position has been unoccupied since July 2012.

Mr Wilson's appointment will be for five years commencing 17 February 2014.


Earlier this week

Minchin for New York
   Nick Minchin has been appointed as Australia's next Consul-General in New York.
   Mr Minchin is a former Federal Cabinet Minister.
   He was elected to the Australian Senate for South Australia in July 1993 and served until June 2011.

Lawless to Brazil
   Patrick Lawless has been appointed as Australia's next Ambassador to Brazil.
   Mr Lawless is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, who has served as Ambassador to Portugal and as Ambassador to Poland.
   He was most recently Head of the Department's Resources, Competitiveness and Trade Analysis Branch.
   He is expected to take up his appointment this month, replacing Brett Hackett.
Coles to Mauritius
   Susan Coles is Australia's next High Commissioner to Mauritius, with non-resident accreditation to Comoros, Madagascar and Seychelles.
   Ms Coles is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
   Until recently, she was Director of the Department's World Trade Organisation and Regional Trade Policy Section.
   Ms Coles is expected to take up her appointment in March 2014, replacing Sandra Vegting.

Quinn headed for Nauru
   Martin Quinn has been appointed High Commissioner to Nauru.
   Mr Quinn is with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was until recently Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau and The Marshall Islands. He was concurrently the Consul-General to Guam and the Northern Marianas. 
   He has served as Ambassador to Afghanistan, Counsellor in Seoul, First Secretary in Jakarta, and Third Secretary in Bangkok.
   Mr Quinn is expected to replace Bruce Cowled this month (February 2014).
Langford to Samoa
   Sue Langford has been appointed High Commissioner to Samoa.
   A career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, she was until recently a Director in the International Security Division.
   She has been a Senior Adviser to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission in Port Vila.
   She is expected to replace Dr Stephen Henningham this month (February 2014). 


New Head of Entertainment

  The creative talent behind the Gruen franchise, award-winning TV writer/producer Jon Casimir, has been appointed ABC TV's Head of Entertainment.
  He will take up his position at ABC TV in Sydney on April 8.
  Casimir is currently an executive producer with Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder, working on the second season ofJulia Zemiro's Home Delivery (ABC TV). At CJZ, he has played a key role in development projects currently in the ABC TV pipeline.
