ABC launches major upgrade of iview

ABC TV has unveiled a major upgrade of its online television viewing service, iview, and app for iPad and iPhone.

The ABC said the revamp included a suite of new and improved features to make it easier for viewers to find, plan and watch TV.

Director of Television at the ABC, Richard Finlayson said the redesign followed the successful launch of the ABC iview Android app in December.

The new iview design gives viewers instant access to the most popular programs and latest episodes from the previous night's broadcast, across all ABC television channels.

Program recommendations, additional episodes and related shows are showcased throughout the service.

iview viewers can plan their own schedule by saving favourite programs to the new "Watchlist" feature.

Finding a particular program is also easier via enhanced search, functionality, and navigation through the ABC TV's broadcast channel brands.

Plan own schedule

"ABC iview has always been a platform of innovation and we continually look at ways to enhance the service so Australian audiences need never miss a moment of their favourite shows," Mr Finlayson said.

"The new iview will also support an even broader catalogue of shows created especially for online audiences."

The update to ivew's iOS and Android apps extends the new features to audiences who use iview on more than 800,000 tablets and smart phones every month.

Head of Online and Multiplatform at the ABC, Arul Baskaran said iview had been a huge success, with over one million Australians using the service each month.
