Comcare has joined an international awareness-raising campaign to promote 28 April as the world day for safety and health at work.
The event is an international day celebrated by organisations across the globe and facilitated by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
It was also a day in which the world's trade union movement held its international commemoration day for individuals who had lost their lives during the course of work, Comcare said on its website.
The theme for 2014 is "Safety and health in the use of chemicals at work".
This awareness-raising campaign is designed to promote the prevention of work accidents and diseases globally.
For Comcare, this was part of our work, day in-day out, it said.
"Preventing harm in the workplace, keeping workers healthy and safe at work, and reducing the number and severity of safety incidents is a core area of our business," Comcare said.
"Our education and assurance services support employers and workers to ensure all Australians return safely to their families, friends and communities every day."
Comcare said the use of chemicals in workplaces was increasing.
"Organisations can ensure effective management of chemicals and achieve an appropriate balance between the benefits of chemicals used, and the preventive and control measures of potential adverse impacts on workers, workplaces, communities and the environment," it said.
