The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is about to enter an arrangement to provide major Chinese media organisations with media content.
ABC International and its Australia Network are to establish an online portal in China for the purpose.
A deal has been struck with the Shanghai Media Group, with support from the media authorities of the Chinese Government in Shanghai.
Managing Director of the ABC, Mark Scott said the online portal would offer ABC and other Australian media content and services to Chinese media organisations.
"This historic agreement opens up a whole new world of television and online cooperation between Australia and China," Mr Scott said.
A week of Australian programs was broadcast in China during Prime Minister, Tony Abbott's visit to China, including a Shanghai-based Q&A.
The Executive Director of the Shanghai Media Group's International Channel Shanghai, Sun Wei said the Group, China's second largest media organisation, was looking to further build international media partnerships.
"Ground breaking international broadcasts such as Q&A, which was produced as a collaboration between Australian and Chinese television crews, pave the way for bigger and better international media cooperation and cultural connections in the future," he said.
Chief Executive of ABC International, Lynley Marshall said the agreement would channel the full range of Australia Network programming and content from other Australian media into China.
"Most importantly, the agreement will provide opportunities for promotion of Australian business, tourism, entertainment, culture and education," she said.
The deal is scheduled to be signed in Shanghai on May 4.
