Senior Appointments

Two for War Memorial Council

Leslie Carlyon and Jillian Segal have been appointed to the Council of the Australian War Memorial.

Mr Carlyon is a former journalist and the acclaimed author of Gallipoli and The Great War, and is also a former member of the Council, serving two terms from 2006-2012.

Ms Segal is Deputy Chancellor of the University of New South Wales, and a member of the Sydney Advisory Council of the Centre for Social Impact.

Both appointments are on a part-time basis for a period of three years.


Neal to manage Future Fund

David Neal has been appointed Managing Director of the Future Fund.

Mr Neal has served as the Chief Investment Officer of the Future Fund since July 2007.

He will take up his new role on 4 August 2014 and until then Paul Mann, Chief Financial Officer, will continue as acting Managing Director.

Mr Neal's promotion will open up the position of Chief Investment Officer and a process to appoint a new CIO will commence immediately.

Carmody for Veterans' Affairs

Shane Carmody has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans' Affairs, effective Monday 16 June 2014.

Mr Carmody has previously been Deputy President of the Repatriation Commission and Deputy Chair of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission.

Mr Carmody's replacement at the Repatriation Commission and Military Rehabilitation Compensation Commission is expected to be announced soon.


New member for NCA board

Terry Weber has been appointed as a part time non-executive member of the Board of the National Capital Authority (NCA).

Mr Weber is Federal Government Lead Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, providing financial management and property management service delivery models for the Australian Government.

The National Capital Authority manages the national estate on behalf of the Australian Government, and administers the Government's interest and role in the strategic planning, promotion, development and enhancement of Canberra as the national capital.
