Secretary of the Department of Human Services, Kathryn Campbell (pictured) has again topped the list of Australian Public Service fundraisers for this year's fifth Vinnies CEO Sleepout in Canberra.

Ms Campbell raised $27,513 in her third sleepout, which this year was held at the National Film and Sound Archive on the night of 19 June.

Last year she raised $27,875 for the event, which raises awareness of homelessness in Australia.

Ms Campbell joined 94 other public and private sector leaders who got a taste of what it must be like to sleep rough when they bedded down in the open with nothing but a sleeping bag and some cardboard, waking to a chilly 2.5 degrees.

The Managing Director of Defence Housing Australia, Peter Howman was not far away on the fundraising ladder with $26,941, while the Deputy Secretary of the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), Peter Yuile raised $16,725.

A total of 22 APS leaders participated in this year's Sleepout.

The Canberra CEOs raised a total of $387,291, while nationally the figure was $5,608,502.

Last year 140 CEOs slept out in Canberra's CBD and braved minus 5 degree temperatures to raise $489,555.

The Sleepout began in Parramatta in 2006 and went national in 2010, attracting almost 700 CEOs in seven cities and raising $2.9 million to directly assist people experiencing homelessness.
