Producer/director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau, Jean Dujardin
Let this biopic suck you into a reprehensible and forebodingly amusing domain of a modern-day brand of criminal extortion: high finance.
As a result, you're taken on a grand trip of over-indulgence of the worst kind: greed, sex, drugs, adrenaline and the relentless mix of all-too-easy money.
Classed as an outrageous black comedy about white-collar crime, it's unapologetic in delivery and unashamedly graphic in intensity.
Of course, it glamourises the real life of Jordan Belfort, the unctuous stockbroker who defrauded his clients of $200 million before he went to jail (although briefly). Also shown are his downfall, his sickening disloyalty of his friends and alienation from wife and children.
The ride is a turbulent one - and sees the transformation of a righteous young Wall Street newcomer (played brilliantly by DiCaprio in the title role) to a deceitful trader who runs a firm that engages in securities fraud and corruption in the 1990s.
Belfort is shown some appalling ways by money-hungry mentor Mark Hanna (Oscar-winner, McConaughey), who also gives an extraordinary performance.
Oscar-winning director Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Aviator), in a move that's rare, proves to be a fearless and impenitent raconteur.
The Wolf is Scorsese's exhaustive and captivating, though disgusting, bizarre, mirthful, exciting, major work on depravity.
Oh, and keep an eye out for another scene to remember - with a pile of money - featuring Australian actress Margot Robbie!
